While Jon Chaney has been teaching for over 10 years, he has been playing guitar & loving music for most of his life. Chaney was born & raised in Texas & after finishing high school he attended McLennan Community College’s commercial music program with a performance scholarship.  There he received a well rounded music education while studying & performing with local heroes such as Kenny Frazier, Clark Nauert, Dick Gimble, Bill Howard, Rob Page & John Kutz.  After graduating, Chaney auditioned for scholarship & entrance to attend Berklee Music College in Boston & received both.  While in Boston he gained more advanced training in areas such as harmony, ear training, improvisation, performance studies, and even courses in private studio instruction. Notable professors include Ritchie Hart (Ron Carter, Dr. Lonnie Smith), Mick Goodrick, Dave Tronzo, & Hal Crook.

After being awarded a bachelors degree, Chaney moved back to Texas & began to pursue a career in music education & performance.  He has shared the stage with players like Pine-top Perkins, Brad Andrews (Marcia Ball) & performed with many local bands.

As a teacher Jon tries his best to help his students realize their potential as musicians. He is very understanding of students goals & needs while maintaining an appropriate course of study. Jon is great with all ages & experience levels.  Areas of specialty for more advanced students include slide guitar, improvisation, blues, solo jazz playing, & contemporary music theory.

Jon continues to perform in Austin and teach privately at Clavier-Werke School of Music.
