Cindy Perkins grew up in El Paso, Texas where she began singing in the church choir.  Her formal musical instruction began on the violin, but changed to voice at the end of the 8th grade when she placed first in the Middle School division of All-Region Choir.  She participated in the EPISD Summer Musical Program and was a member of the All-Region Choir throughout High School, earning the position of first alternate to the Texas All-State choir her senior year.

Cindy began her studies in music at Southern Virginia University where she performed as Laetitia in Menotti’s comic opera The Old Maid and the Thief.  As a member of the Chamber Choir, she had the opportunity to collaborate with recording violinist Jenny Oaks Baker at performances in Washington, DC.  As a soloist, Cindy placed first in the NATS competition for the sate of Virginia in 2007.

Cindy graduated with her Bachelors in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University-Idaho in July of 2009.  While attending BYU-Idaho she studied with Kristine Ceisinski, was a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, and participated in multiple opera scenes performances.  In January of 2009 she was chosen as a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and awarded the Young Artist award - an award to encourage up and coming young artists to continue study and training.

As a teacher, Cindy feels that to effectively teach voice, you must establish a positive relationship with each student, and a safe environment to learn and improve.  She is passionate about teaching children how to practice effectively and efficiently and feels that vocal education will enrich a person’s life regardless of whether they study music at a collegiate level.  Cindy incorporates ear training and sight singing into her instruction and loves to explore many musical genres.
