Chris
Gebhard has been teaching privately for over 15 years, and has been offering guitar instruction here at Clavier-Werke since
2002. Chris teaches guitar mainly, but also bass, piano and drums. He has performed and taught in California, studying at Pasadena
City College and graduating from Musicians Institute in Hollywood. He
then received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Guitar Peformance/Classical
studies from UW-Milwaukee/Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. While earning
his degree, he performed around the midwest with his jazz trio, while
also doing many solo jazz guitar shows. Travels and performances to Central
America, Italy, Spain, northern Europe, and Thailand followed after graduation.
Since moving to Austin in 2000, he has been performing jazz and blues
guitar gigs, while also playing drums, bass, keyboard and singing in many
local projects.
Chris's approach is a combination of ear and theory. He likes to have his students do as much listening as playing. He also encourages students to bring in songs they like as well as write original songs. He hopes to combine his knowledge of many different guitar styles and music theory experience to offer guitar instruction to all abililty levels. He is instructing Beginning and Intermediate guitar classes here at the Clavier-Werke school, as well as private instruction for those wanting to specialize in jazz, blues, or beginning level classical guitar. |
